We are delighted to introduce you to one of our Women’s Business School graduates Anyieth Ariik, founder of Anyieth African Accessories.
When did you start your business?
I started my business when I came to Australia because there were things of the African Culture that weren’t here like materials, hair extensions, and some of our skin products including lotion etc. That made me think of having my own business even though things haven’t been going well due to me being a young mother at that time and lack of experience. I opened my business by selling them online on eBay because I thought it would help me get more sales instead of just our Community.
What was the inspiration behind starting this business?
My inspiration in starting a business is that I have been working very hard in multiple jobs, I have noticed that the money I work for runs out and I have no more money to put in my savings account. The reason to open my business is always in my mind, heart and soul because my gift is that I don’t give up without any achievement whilst I have a beautiful personality. I really like owning a business beacuse this makes me who I am as a person and not to rely on someone else.
What are you most excited about in your business?
Being a mother, lets you think of big things to give to your children and to empower them in other ways. I am most excited about the upbringing of my business because this is a career that I’ve wanted to pursue for a long time now.
What has been the most challenging thing about starting your business?
The most challenging thing is that I have issues with the marketing part of my business. How to market my business on media is a skill that is vital in a business. I find that my desires pushed me to start this business without doing research about the challenges we may face.
What advice would you give to other women thinking about starting a business?
Advice that I would give to someone thinking about starting a business is to not let failure prevent you from pursuing your dream. I have faced failure this year when trying to be consistent with my business. I tried my best, but I soon learnt that what I thought was best was not helping. Every successful person always has a plan. A plan for what they would do to deal with a crisis, a plan for how to deal with failure and defeat and many more. You have to be organised and efficient in order for your nosiness to work.
Why did you choose to do the Women’s Business School Programs?
Being a part of the Women’s Business School showed me another part of the world because business is not easy to do and unless you have someone to show you what to do, like these beautiful sisters, Peace, Katy and other successful businesswomen. I have learned things that I didn’t even know about business. I believe that I was not capable to do business but when I got this opportunity, it opened my mind in different levels and helped me think of what to do next better than before. What I love about this program is that I have hope to gain knowledge through learning about other prosperous businesswomen’s stories. I would love to have a solid trading partner between Australia and Kenya to bring the products for a new diverse change.
What did you enjoy the most about being part of the program?
Being part of the program has given me a lot of new skills and gave me the chance of learning from other women who have been in business. I’m fortunate enough to be apart of the program because of the support from the women. I enjoyed most of the program except that I was tired sometimes and not focused very well because I was pregnant with my little son. I was also delightful that Peace and Katy accepted my request for the scholarship. I can’t find the words to appreciate these wonderful sisters. Keep it up, Peace and Katy as you have inspired many women and given them a clear pathway. God will always endorse you with what you are giving to women. I am very proud that I am part of this program, even though my business isn’t quite successful.
What surprised you most about the program?
I was first surprised that I got the scholarship for free for 6 six months. It was also amazing that I was able to be a part of the program, which has allowed me to have a connection with these sensational sisters. Knowing that they would always be there one step at a time to share my story with other women. I was stunned that they were able to build my confidence with technology and that there were other women who were new to business like me.
Which module was the most helpful and why?
I found that module 1 was the most helpful because I have motivated myself since I was young, and I always think about what to do instead of relaxing. My vision is to build my company because I believe everyone has something to achieve and I count myself in as one of those people. I have an amount of thoughts about people who want to establish big goals in their life. I am always trying to work hard to help my family and other people and this kind of strength that I get, it will lift me up higher one day. A few of my strengths include humility, patience and competitiveness without getting tried quickly. I need my business to get where I believe that I am capable to accomplish my desire. I can feel that I am a businesswoman but it’s not hard to say that I am a businesswoman. My issues are with finances, skills including dealing with strategies that have network problems. What I value in my life is to be respectful to everyone no matter who it is, it’s good to show respect because this is how everyone wants to be treated. Owning a business and having a family comes with a big responsibility because so many things need to be handled or cared for. These are one of the most important values I have in my life and they are something that I demonstrate every day.
How did the program help you in your business?
This program has made me discover that people believe what they see if they are willing to live their best life and that you don’t give up. Even though my business isn’t going the way I hope it would, I am hoping with my persistence and with the support I got from Peace and Katy and other women in the program, that I would absolutely make it through. This program created a pathway for my business, which has helped me build more confidence in myself. It has helped me set some goals for my business and I am willing to reach them.
What has been the best thing about starting your own business?
I was amazed when I started my business because I have always dreamed of having my own company and to employ people who don’t have a job. Knowing that the right thing in business is getting into the right mind-set for success and as yourself if you are ready to reach your goal. I also have that feeling of achieving something in life, but I don’t see myself doing it. I really have a quality business mind-set, but I need to put them to action with some help.
Would you recommend the Women’s Business School to other women starting a business? Why?
Yes, I would recommend the Women’s Business School to other women starting a business. This is because from this program it helps you gain knowledge whilst connecting with other successful businesswomen in the program. This encourages you a lot in business to dream big and not to give up. In the end, you receive a certificate of completion. The two sisters who created this magnificent course for women, will always have connection with you and would be there to support you with your business life.
What’s happening next in your business?
Now that I have a baby, business has been quiet and I have been thinking of bringing more products to expand my business. But the positive side of it at the moment is that some people know that I am doing my business at my place, so they come to buy from me. As I am hoping for the big achievement, I am always thinking of what to do next.
What are your big plans for the future?
My current big plans is to have my business running to bring money in so I would have the money to open a charity. I am in the process of seeing the funds for the charity.
