We are delighted to introduce you to one of our Women’s Business School graduates Leah Chandler, founder of Kids-Fit Australia.

When did you start your business?

I started my business in 2016.

What was the inspiration behind starting this business?

The inspiration was to provide the tools to be kids and families to be fit for everyday life.  This included partnering with early learning and childcare centes, special and mainstream schools and like-minded organisations to achieve this goal together.  This came about as our family is touched by special needs and saw our own kids and family struggle.  We also observed many other kids and families struggling too and wanted to be part of the solution to make their lives better.

What are you most excited about in your business?

That we have now expanded to providing 3-tiered program which includes sessions for Educators and Parents & Carers and Kids.  This is to set a unified community approach for acceptance and inclusiveness.

What has been the most challenging thing about starting your business?

Learning how to be financially minded and follow my path.

What advice would you give to other women thinking about starting a business?

Work with a mentor to help you plan it out and to help you to know how to set it up and build partnerships.  The Women’s Business School Ignite program would be a good option!  Also, become part of women in business groups that support each other to move forward!

Why did you choose to do the Women’s Business School Programs?

I work from home and find that my life is a little crazy with the way our family is.  I wanted to work with other fabulous women with runs on the board in business and a great attitude to help and support others.

What did you enjoy the most about being part of the program?

The option to work with mentors and be part of a like-minded group.

What surprised you most about the program?

That it was so flexible and definitely the mentors was a highlight for me!

Which module was the most helpful and why?

The financial module and the online systems module were great – these aren’t my strong suits.

How did the program help you in your business?

Last year was a really hard year in business due to many factors and my daughter wasn’t well so a tough year all round, and it was nice to be able to keep in touch with people online when it was such an isolated year for all.  It also helped me rethink my goals to make my life become more meaningful and set my priorities up right.

What has been the best thing about starting your own business?

Flexibility of times and what I can earn.  I am limited in my time due to my family and I also have a pet-hate for workplace environments that are soul-destroying.   I want to make a difference in the right way partnering with the right people and work the hours I want.  I want good quality business and personal relationships in my life.

Would you recommend the Women’s Business School to other women starting a business? Why?

Absolutely!  I think all the modules really help you pull your business together and start off on the right foot!  Plus, when the imposter syndrome hits, there is great encouragement to reset and continue to move forward with no judgement.

What’s happening next in your business?

Working to a larger profit scale and narrowing down on the core business and becoming an expert at what I do best!

What are your big plans for the future?

$1M business set up by 2022/2023 financial year.
