Meet Skye

I have a 6 year old son, a old west highland terrier cross and have just celebrated my 11th wedding anniversary. I am also the Lead Career Coach and owner at Y Executive.  Y Executive is focused on the career and development of professionals who are looking to land a great new job. Inspired by a lack of experienced career coaches dedicated to the needs of job seekers I set about bringing career coaching and my unique, relaxed and supportive coaching style to the Melbourne and Sydney market.  When asked “what do you do?” I simply say that “I help professionals land their dream job so they can focus on building a career and life they love”.  My business, Y Executive gives you the skills to land a new job in what is a very competitive market.

I hear many women in business saying that it can be really hard.  There have definitely been times where I have felt overwhelmed and exhausted but I have found this expeirience to be absolutely life changing, in the best way possible.

When did you start your business?

I started my business as a side hustle just over 5 years ago.  In November of 2016, I quit my permanent job and started working for myself.  This has been one of the best decisions I have ever made.  The difference in all round happiness not just for me but also for my family has been enormous.

What was the inspiration behind starting this business?

I have seen countless people who are exceptional at what they do miss out on jobs that they deserve just because they didnt know how to market themselves.  Having worked in recruitment  and human resources, i wanted to help people get the job and careers that they deserve.

What are you most excited about in your business?

I have just launched new workshops that gives job seekers what they need to land a great new  job.  We cover everything from resume writing, linkedin profile enhancement, job interview techniques and most importantly how to access the upwards of 85% of vacant jobs that are never advertised.  The workshops are run in Melbourne and Sydney at this point with Brisbane, Adelaide and Hobart coming soon.

What has been the most challenging thing about starting your business?

The most challenging thing for me has been keeping on top of all the tasks that you need to do when you run a business by yourself.  Those social media posts dont happen by themselves 🙂

What advice would you give to other women thinking about starting a business?

Just Do It!!!  I am loving every second of being a small business owner.  Its hard work but it takes job satisfaction to the highest level.  I love seeing the results of my work, I love having the flexibility to work when I want and most of all I love being able to see the results of my clients.  It really is life changing.

Why did you choose to do the Women’s Business School Ignite Program?

I chose the Women’s Business School Ignite Program because I wanted to get the know how of running a business from woman who know what it takes to be a mum and run a business. I wanted to take my business from a side hustle to a profitable and sustainable business and I wanted to do that with a support network.  This is exactly what I got from the Ignite Program.

What did you enjoy the most about being part of the program?

There are so many things that I liked but the key highlight for me were the group coaching calls.  I gained so much from hearing from the industry experts.  I enjoyed their stories of success and the practical advice that they gave.

What surprised you most about the program?

I was really surprised how hands on Peace and Katy are.  Not only do they run the business but they attend every call and respond to comments and messages super quickly.  I was also surprised at the masterclass.  The group of women were able to just get right into business planning mode and the guest speakers were excellent.

Which module was the most helpful and why?

I really enjoyed all modules but the best one was the Financial Abundance.  I got so much from this module.  I have set aside time every week to review my businesses financial position and i now understand all the “finance lingo” that was once a total blur.  I know what I am spending and when I need to cut back.  This module has been such a massive help.

How did the program help you in your business?

I am more confident in making decisions and I am more confident to back myself.  This program gave me the skills and the confidence to take my business to the next level.  There is so much work when you are starting a business or when taking a side hustle mainstream.  It can be really daunting.  I was able to get through this stage with the support from the Women’s Business School.

What has been the best thing about starting your own business?

There are literally a million things, but if i had to pick 1 i would say the flexibility. A close second is being able to set my own success measures and know that everything i am doing for my business is driving me forward.

Would you recommend the Women’s Business School to other women starting a business? Why?

Absolutely!  I have had a great experience and have learned a LOT!  To be able to take my side hustle to the next level with the support of the Womens Business School has given me the confidence to continue to grow my business and help my clients in new ways.

What’s happening next in your business?

I have just launched the Job Search Accelerator workshops in Melbourne and Sydney so my focus is on building and growing this service.  Next, I will be working on taking some of my services online.  This is a big step and I am looking forward to refreshing myself with the content from the Ignite Program to get me moving in the right direction.

What are your big plans for the future?

My big plans for the future are to have an  over seas presence with my first international office being the UK.  Watch this space!
